Biography of Michael J. Kessler

Michael
Kessler is a 1985 graduate of the University of North
Carolina School of Law. He was admitted to Law School
on the strength of his undergraduate degree in the Administration
of Criminal Justice, which he also earned at University
of North Carolina.
While in Law School, he worked as an intern for the local
Public Defender's office in Chapel Hill, North Carolina,
and worked as a Law Clerk for prominent Criminal Defense
Lawyer David Rudolf. During this early stage of
his career, he assisted in the investigation, preparation
and trial of a Ku Klux Klan member accused of murder in
the shooting death of another Klansman at a Klan rally.

Michael Kessler is a Board Certified Criminal Trial Lawyer.
This designation means that he has been certified by the
Florida Bar as a Specialist in the trial of criminal cases. Board Certification is the highest degree of specialization
recognized by The Florida Bar.
Michael Kessler is an active member of the National College
for DWI Defense. He has attended seminars in DWI
Defense in San Diego, Miami, and Las Vegas, as well as
the campus of Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass. By virtue of his having taken the same classes as the
police, he is certified to operate the Intoxilyzer 5000,
and to administer and grade roadside sobriety tests approved
for use by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
(NHTSA).
Michael Kessler is a proud and active member of the National
Legal Panel for the National Organization for the Reform
of Marijuana Laws. He regularly attends their annual
continuing legal education seminar in Key West, Florida,
and is involved in the fight to decriminalize marijuana
and legalize medical marijuana.

Michael Kessler is a long-time member of the National
Association of Criminal Defense lawyers. He has
studied the science of cross-examination and many varied
strategies, tactics and techniques in the defense of criminal
cases at such locations as Chicago, Portland, New Orleans,
St. Petersburg, Las Vegas and Atlanta.
Michael Kessler practices in both State and Federal Courts.
He was the first lawyer on the Treasure Coast of Florida
to win an acquittal at trial against the United States
Attorney in a federal cocaine trafficking conspiracy trial. His recent cases have included the defense of an anthrax
hoax case and a Hobbs Act conspiracy involving allegations
of arson and extortion.

Michael Kessler serves on the legal panel for the Treasure
Coast chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union. He recently secured the defeat of a government search
warrant aimed at the private medical records of the patients
of a doctor targeted by the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Michael Kessler has handled cases before the Fourth District
Court of Appeal on issues as varied as probation violations,
sex offender counselling, pretrial release, search and
seizure, improper prosecution tactics during closing argument,
and more.
Michael Kessler has managed his Law Firm on the Treasure
Coast since 1987, following his "graduation" from the
Public Defender's office in Fort Pierce.
